Maple Class
Welcome to the Summer Term in Maple Class. We are a Year 3 and 4 class and Mrs Daniels is the class teacher.
Our Learning:
Our topic this half-term is called Saxon and Scot Stories.
This term, we are diving into an exciting new topic. In History, the children will explore how the Anglo-Saxons established law and order across seven distinct kingdoms, while Science lessons will focus on the human digestive system, dental structures, and food chains. We will examine modern Hindu life in Britain and the inspiring legacy of Gandhi in RE, alongside learning about budgeting, career aspirations, and managing transitions in RSHE. Hands-on projects include designing sustainable, durable sling-shot cars in Design & Technology and developing programming skills using flowcharts, timers, and debugging in Computing. Finally, children will expand their Spanish vocabulary to read and write about their families and stay active in PE with rounders and athletics.
Useful information:
Swimming is on a Wednesday and PE is on Thursday afternoons for both Year 3 and 4 this term, so please send your child to school in their PE kit/ swimming kit on these days. Please ensure that PE kits meet the criteria of a plain T-shirt/their team colour and black/navy/grey bottoms (shorts, leggings or joggers). Please make sure your child has a named water bottle that they bring to school with them every day.
How you can help
Please ensure that your child reads four times a week. On a Friday, reading records will be collected to check if this has been done since the previous week.
Also, please ensure that your child accesses TTRS (Times Tables Rock Stars) and Spelling Shed throughout the week. This is especially important for Year 4 children as they have their multiplication check in June.
A topic menu (creative homework) involving six challenges will be issued once every half-term, where children can choose their own activities. Certificates will be given out depending on the number of challenges completed.
