RE

Our Philosophy

At Morton, we believe it is important that all children have an understanding of the beliefs of the major world religions and non-religious worldviews. Teaching RE encourages personal reflection and development. Children will develop the knowledge and understanding to enable them to ask and consider challenging questions about their own and other’s beliefs and values. The teaching of RE promotes empathy and an understanding of different perspectives, this will equip our children with the knowledge that they need in order to live respectfully and harmoniously in the multi-cultural society.

How we teach RE

We use the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus as a base for our Religious Education.

Children in Morton grow up in a predominantly white British environment and so have little experience of people with different faiths and cultures. It is therefore important that we give them these experiences wherever we can. There are regular visits and contact with the local church and church groups. Children have the opportunity in upper key stage 2 to go on a faith walk and where possible we make links with people from other faiths within our school trust.

RE begins in the Early years where children start learning about religions through the festivals that are celebrated throughout the year. In KS1 and KS2 our curriculum is planned over a two year cycle. In each cycle, children have the opportunity to learn about Christianity, other world religions and living in a multi-cultural society.
