RSHE
Our Philosophy
At our Morton, the intent of our RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) curriculum is to equip pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to lead safe, healthy and happy lives. We aim to support children in developing positive relationships, emotional resilience, self-respect and respect for others, preparing them for life.
Our curriculum is age-appropriate, inclusive and underpinned by our school values. It enables pupils to understand how to keep themselves physically and mentally healthy, stay safe (including online), manage their feelings and build healthy relationships. We provide a safe and supportive environment where children feel confident to ask questions, explore ideas and develop their understanding. Through a supportive and respectful environment, we empower children to make informed choices and become responsible, active members of their community.

How we teach RSHE
RSHE is taught weekly as a discrete lesson, following the Kapow Primary scheme of work to ensure full coverage of the statutory Relationships and Health Education curriculum. The scheme provides a clear progression of knowledge and skills from EYFS to Year 6, enabling pupils to build understanding year on year. Lessons are carefully structured, age-appropriate and inclusive, incorporating discussion, collaborative activities and opportunities for reflection. In addition to discrete lessons, key themes such as wellbeing, respect, safety and healthy relationships are reinforced through assemblies, wider curriculum links and daily school life, ensuring that RSHE learning is meaningful and embedded. Online safety is embedded throughout the curriculum in which pupils are supported to develop the knowledge and skills they need to use the online world safely and responsibly, to recognise and manage risk and to seek help and report concerns when needed.
